      Geostatistical Remote Sensing Specialist
      The Kansas Biological Survey and Kansas Applied Remote Sensing Program
      (http://www.kars.ukans.edu) seek a Remote Sensing Specialist, full-time
      professional staff, 12-month appointment. The Remote Sensing Specialist
      will assume a leadership position in the development and implementation of
      remote-sensing-based geostatistical models for coniferous forest
      characterization and inventory. The Specialist will work as part of the
      overall research team and independently to address overall project goals
      and objectives. Principal duties include overseeing development and
      implementation of geostatistical models for forest characterization and
      inventory using remotely sensed data and geographic information systems
      (GIS) analysis, and performing statistical analysis of geostatistical model
      results and output; developing applications demonstration projects using
      the remote sensing-based geostatistical modeling approach; overseeing
      development and implementation of software computer code as required in
      support of geostatistical modeling, data input and output, and analysis;
      formulating, summarizing, and presenting scientific results and data in
      written, oral, and graphic form to NASA, other federal and state agencies,
      and professional conferences and journals; and overseeing and conducting
      forest sampling field campaigns in support of project objectives. Required
      qualifications: M.A./M.S. degree in geography, forestry, biology,
      statistics, or other related disciplines; Course work and experience in
      Geostatistics, Remote Sensing, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS);
      Experience using one or more of standard geostatistical software systems,
      such as GS+, GSTAT, GEOEAS, Surfer, or GSLIB, or similar software in a
      geostatistical analysis project; working knowledge of industry standard
      office applications software; demonstrated ability to perform tasks
      accurately and to meet deadlines; and demonstrated ability to work both
      independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Preferred
      qualifications: Advanced degree in appropriate discipline; experience
      utilizing ERDAS Imagine software and/or ESRI GIS products; Computer
      programming experience, training, or coursework; experience performing
      field sampling in forest vegetation communities; Experience writing grant
      proposals, reports, and presenting scientific research results. Full staff
      benefits package. Salary range $34,000-$36,000, commensurate with
      qualifications and experience. Review of applications begins October 16 and
