GEOSTATS: position open

Post-Doctoral Fellow/Research Associate/Ph.D. Graduate Student
Applicants are invited for a 1-year Post-doctoral fellow or research
associate with a possible extension, in the Department of Geomatics
Engineering, The University of Calgary. The option is also available for
graduate students who wish to register the Ph.D. program in this field.
The project is a 1-year collaborative venture between the University and
industry, commencing January 01, 2000. Salary is negotiable based on the
qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate should have demonstrated excellence in image
processing, computer vision, photogrammetry and remote sensing, and be
proficient in the C/C++ programming language. Experience with the use
and analysis of Radar imagery is of importance to the project. Knowledge
of the use of remote sensing software such as PCI will be an advantage.
A Master or Doctoral degree from a University in Geomatics, Electrical
Engineering or Computer Science is required.
Specific tasks will be to develop algorithms and software on (1) feature
extraction such as buildings from radar imagery, and (2) automatic or
semi-automatic image registration between radar imagery and optical
imagery such as IKONOS high-resolution images. This is an exciting
project which has been of great interest to both academia and industry.
