Group Description

On the Agility on Wheels list members discuss the special challenges of training for and competing in agility from a wheelchair or with other mobility challenges; we encourage discussion and utilization of positive training methods that enhance the bond between handlers and their dogs. Consider this list a safe haven for discussion of ideas and a variety of training techniques; a place to share triumphs and ask for help. We discourage discussion of aversive training techniques, including the use of physical coercion or harsh corrections.

Training a dog for agility games is challenging; when the handler has limited mobility, or other physical disabilities the challenges multiply many fold. This list is intended to be a resource for training ideas, and developing strategies for handling courses at all levels of competition. Above all, this list exists to provide moral support.

We welcome individual handlers with disabilities of all types, use of a wheelchair is not a criteria for being part of this group. We also welcome agility instructors, health and rehabilitation professionals, and friends, who want to support and instruct agility handlers with disabilities.
