      Muslim Voices: Arts & Ideas kicks off this weekend with concerts
      by Youssou N'Dour, plus the New York premiere of the
      award-winning film Youssou N'Dour: I Bring What I Love, the
      vibrant outdoor souk featuring food, crafts, and music, films by
      Muslim artists from around the world, and the Shakespearean
      remake of Richard III as an Arab tragedy. Meanwhile, R&B legend
      Allen Toussaint keeps it funky at MetroTech on Thursday. Plus,
      the 2009 Next Wave Festival has just been announced, and
      subscriptions go on sale soon.

      Allen Toussaint

      Recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, this New
      Orleans native was an engine driving early R&B, soul, and funk,
      setting musical precedents that continue to influence music
      today. Toussaint's "Working in the Coal Mine", "Ride Your Pony",
      and "Everything I Do Gonna Be Funky" have become legendary R&B
      standards.
