It may interest you to know that some professors in the larger
writing workshops arena do not allow their students to talk at all
during the workshop. Having said that, I would remind you of the
terms that I introduced the first evening of class:
1) Maintain silence in the room before class begins--(and we know
that class begins a certain way every Wednesday night.) In the event
you may have forgotten--when stepping across the threshold, we've
entered sacred space, and as such, it is to be respected.
Maintaining the silence before class, as I require, is also one way
of honoring the words.
2) No side conversations during class, and especially, when I'm
