Group Description

The Ann Arbor Bill of Rights Defense Committee was formed to help educate the residents of Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County about the need to adopt ordinances, that is, laws that prohibit City and County employees from cooperating with federal officials in unconstitutional law enforcement practices. The Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996, the USA PATRIOT Act, and the Homeland Security Act and certain federal Executive Orders threaten and diminish the civil liberties of U.S. citizens and noncitizens guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. State and local legislators have every right and duty under the Constitution to prohibit law enforcement personnel and others from participating in civil liberties abuses of federal agents.
