- If any billionaire had a pretty good reputation, it was Elon Musk. Turns out it was still just illusion.Note that even in this critical story, there are hints as to *why* there can be no virtuous billionaires. It isn't about the person. That kind of wealth and power bends reality, much like a high mass object bends space-time. The individual person takes on a role, or archetype, which is the focus of large numbers of other people. Once a person takes up that mantle, it is hard to cast aside. Super rich people are not free -- their lives and choices are more constrained than the average middle class person's is. Networks of reciprocal obligation are created. People who invest in ventures like Tesla want profits! And as corporations exist in America, they have a right to demand profits, even at the expense of workers or the environment or the law. Neither Elon Musk nor any other person can resist these forces. That, however, does not excuse him being a jerk and paranoid, and dismissing and denying the truth even when confronted with it. Not that denying reality is unique to billionaires!
