Blaze in Zion park is finally contained
- Its raining like crazy on Cedar Mountain today. Anyone know if the
Kolob Terrace road got any?
A nearly 18,000-acre fire in and around Zion National Park was
completely contained Saturday.
Nine hiking trails remained closed in the park from the Kolob
Fire, which began burning June 24 and destroyed a horse trailer, two
out-buildings, two vehicles, a cabin and a house, according to the
National Park Service.
Three firefighters suffered minor injuries fighting the blaze.
Fire crews spent Saturday monitoring the area inside the fire
line, which continued to smolder. Temperatures over the weekend were
predicted to top 100 degrees.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. It has been
previously reported that it was believed to have been human-caused,
but Park Service spokesman Murray Shoemaker said Saturday it is not
clear if that is the case.
