Hi all -
I know that this is not my usual habit, mentioning real-life stuff on
this ML. The Yuricon ML is a place where I hope that you can relax,
kick back and escape from reality a while in detailed conversations
about nothing. :-)
But I did want to say this, especially to all of you who live in the
US. Even if you think you have aboslutely nothing to give, I want you
to walk around your house and look for an old hammer, some clothes
that are too small for you, samples of soap, hand cream, toothpaste,
that extra toothbrush your dentist gave you and you've never used.
The Red Cross, Salvation Army, United Way and local charities near you
are all collecting these kinds of things for the refugees of Katrina.

If you do have a job, any kind of job, take $5 out of you paycheck
this week and give it to a charity. That's the price of one burger. It
won't kill you.
Check to see if any bank or other organization is doing a matching
donation in your area - then send that five dollars to them. There,
you just sent $10 to people who need it really badly right now.
If you work for a real company - if they aren't already matching your
donations, ask! It can't hurt to ask.
And here is a website that will help you to choose a chairty:
The folks who were affected by Katrina, like the folks who were hit by
the Tsunami, will be years in rebuilding.
I urge everyone to help, even if its in the smallest possible way,
because if you have a computer and an internet connection, you already
have alot more than many of those people.
Thanks for letting me be so off-topic - and thank you, in advance for
your kindness and generosity.
