      Unfortunately, no.

        No, there is no way to do math with <fo:page-number/>.

        But ... since you want automation ...

        I have been unable to find a Windows-based version of the psutils library
        of programs in order to use the pstops tool. The one I thought I had found
        was hardwired to A4 page size and could not be reconfigured for use with
        US-letter page sizes.

        To get a programmatic approach, pstops of psutils promises to do just this:

        ===8<---
        Pstops rearranges pages from a PostScript document, creating a new
        PostScript file. The input PostScript file should follow the Adobe Document
        Structuring Conventions. Pstops can be used to perform a large number of
        arbitrary re-arrangements of Documents, including arranging for printing
        2-up, 4-up, booklets, reversing, selecting front or back sides of
        documents, scaling, etc.
        ===8<---

        I do not have the tools to compile the sources on Windows, and I cannot
        find a Windows precompiled executable that supports both (or even one of
        each!) A4 and US-letter pages ...

        If *anyone* on the list knows of such a library, could you please post it
        to the list?

        Thanks!

              Thanks, but the ones you pointed me to state they are precompiled only for
              A4 ... I've tried that particular package in the past and my recollection
              is there were no command-line options for US-letter. I'll try again.

              Thanks for taking the time to send the link!
