      ... Actually you can, that s what fo:instream-foreign-object formatting object is intended for - to embed inline graphic (in xml form though), but I m not

        Actually you can, that's what fo:instream-foreign-object formatting
        object is intended for - to embed inline graphic (in xml form though),
        but I'm not aware of any fo processor, which supports such kind of image
        embedding.

          You can pull in an image from a file using fo:external-graphic.

            Make sure you have enough height and width. And, make sure you have
            compatible jar files (ie. fop, batik from the same fop package).

            use this example for jpegs (change png to jpeg) too.
