    In developing and emerging countries, mobility is crucial for poverty reduction and hence for the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals. It facilitates access to markets and jobs, education, health care, and social and political participation. Therefore, mobility is crucial for successful development cooperation. With a particular focus on developing and emerging countries, the 2011 Bonn Symposium focuses on the significance of mobility for development and explores ways of promoting mobility in a sustainable manner.
