      Brisbane City Council is currently building or promoting some A$10-15
      billion of tunnels and bridges but at the same time has been closing
      "Bus Lanes" to convert them back to general traffic lanes.

      In amongst these huge and expensive facilities designed to reduce
      congestion, are two initiatives which in other situations,
      circumstances and/or contexts, might be "useful" ... but what do you think?

        Throughput of one mile of road lane for one hour

        Automobiles = 900 cars moving approx. 900 - 1800 passengers/hour  (this is in a city setting.  On the highway with limited numbers of exits, the throughput ranges from 1600 to 2200 cars/hour)
        Traditional bus service = 6,250 passengers/hour
        Bus Rapid Transit = 10,000 passengers/hour
        Light Rail = 16,000 passengers/hour

        In a dense urban setting, this number can be 2 to 4 times higher with heavy rail, although typically such services are underground.

            It states that 4,000 bicycles can move about 13 miles in one hour.
