Don Divine WWP Email Member (d3869@...) Most Effective Tool Used
      to Sell Socialism to Americans?
Written on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 by David L. Goetsch

One of the most effective, albeit hypocritical, tools used by the
left to “sell” socialism to the American public is false compassion. Aided
and abetted by the media, the left claims to be more compassionate toward the
so-called victims in society—a message that plays well to Americans encouraged
by trial lawyers and government bureaucrats to view themselves as victims.
However, the truth is that conservatives are significantly more compassionate
in giving to the needy than are liberals. For example, conservatives give a
much higher percentage of their personal income to charity than do liberals.
For a complete accounting of this fact—a fact that is little known because
liberal journalists keep it under wraps—see Who
Really Cares: The Surprising Truth about Compassionate Conservatism (New York: Basic Books, 2006) by Arthur C.
Brooks. What Brooks demonstrates in his book is that liberals are generous with
the money of other people, but stingy with their own, and that the attitudes of
liberals toward the needy are condescending, paternal, and opportunistic (i.e.
if liberals can create a broad base of people who are dependent on the
government they can ensure a broad base of support in elections).

In fact, with the assistance of the media and trial lawyers
liberals have turned victimhood into one of America’s most prospering
industries. Unfortunately, the so-called compassion of the left is the type
that gives in to the alcoholic who begs for a drink or the addict who pleads
for a fix. Giving might stop the tears for the moment, but it will just make
the addiction worse in the long run. The unavoidable result of this advocacy of
victimhood is the encouragement of dependence and entitlement. The more that
people view themselves as entitled victims, the more dependent they become. The
more dependent citizens become, the faster America slides downhill toward
      socialism.

The left has mastered the art of compassion
      rhetoric and uses it effectively
to sell socialism to a gullible American public. Smiling socialists sell their
philosophy in the same way a snake oil salesman hawks his wares. One of the
left’s favorite terms for selling socialism is equality. “Equality” has become the mantra of the left. After all, didn’t
Thomas Jefferson advocate equality for all men in the Declaration of
Independence? Didn’t Jefferson say that “…all men are created equal”?
Historians still debate whether Jefferson meant that all men are created equal
before God, before the law, or in human dignity. But there are no serious
scholars who believe he meant what the left means by equality: equality of outcome.

The left advocates, legislates, and sometimes intimidates in its
on-going attempts to guarantee equality of outcome in society regardless of
merit or effort. Anyone on the right who dares claim that an unproductive
member of society deserves less than a productive member is quickly labeled
“hard-hearted” or “mean-spirited.” The left makes no connection between
contribution and reward. Leftists find nothing wrong with taking from a
productive person and giving to an unproductive person, even one who has the
potential to be productive but makes no effort to be. Socialists call this
government-ordained theft “redistribution of wealth,” one of president Obama’s
favorite concepts. The radical left thinks it is unfair for a thrifty,
diligent, self-reliant producer who pulls America’s economic wagon to have more
than a lazy, irresponsible, entitled person who just rides in the wagon. This
is one of the main reasons for socialism’s long and consistent record of
      failure.

Robin Crane WWP Invitee (patriot451@...) Oh, 'tis IMPOSSIBLE, isn't it that decent people can somehow come up with
ideas that vary from Don's? Amazing, isn't it? There's only ONE way to
think, and that is Don's way.

Anyone who disagrees is "false." They can't possibly feel "compassion,"
can they? They can't possibly have good families, love their spouses and
their children, value their country, love their fellow-man, attend church
(or not) for healthy reasons, serve in their communities, teach school,
fight fires, run the national parks, clean the streets, cook the
hamburgers, wait on tables, run small businesses, etc., AND STILL DISAGREE
        WITH DON!

Disagree with Don, and you get labeled "false." I hope the other 99.99999%
of the world that doesn't think like Don is quaking in their boots as the
ONE RIGHT PERSON is labelling you "false." Oh, woe is us! What a
judgment, to be "false" with Don!

This is one of your very best posts; and you have described *to a 'T'* why I
lump Don Divine in with the Shammaite Pharisees (who were the ones Jesus went

line with Jesus' thinking; and they were also the group with whom Paul was
affiliated. (Remember: at least three, and as many of six epistles attributed
to Paul were not written by Paul at all.)

This
is one of the main reasons for socialism’s long and consistent record of
            failure.

              :-)

Robin Crane WWP Invitee (patriot451@...) Oh, 'tis IMPOSSIBLE, isn't it that decent people can somehow come up with ideas that vary from Don's? Amazing, isn't it? There's only ONE way to think, and that is Don's way.

Anyone who disagrees is "false." They can't possibly feel "compassion," can they? They can't possibly have good families, love their spouses and their children, value their country, love their fellow-man, attend church (or not) for healthy reasons, serve in their communities, teach school, fight fires, run the national parks, clean the streets, cook the hamburgers, wait on tables, run small businesses, etc., AND STILL DISAGREE WITH DON!

Disagree with Don, and you get labeled "false." I hope the other 99.99999% of the world that doesn't think like Don is quaking in their boots as the ONE RIGHT PERSON is labelling you "false." Oh, woe is us! What a judgment, to be "false" with Don!

One of the most effective, albeit hypocritical, tools used by theleft to “sell” socialism to the American public is false compassion. Aidedand abetted by the media, the left claims to be more compassionate toward theso-called victims in society—a message that plays well to Americans encouragedby trial lawyers and government bureaucrats to view themselves as victims. However, the truth is that conservatives are significantly more compassionatein giving to the needy than are liberals. Randist Bo7b aka Bob Wynman WWP Email Member (bobalou@...) We heartily agree, Eve, and cannot find anything in the article with which to disagree. Anyone who truly cares about the poor, the disadvantaged, the real victims would certainly NOT advocate the Welfare/Warfare State, Minimum Wage and Child Labor Laws that sentence the poor, the disadvantaged, the real victims to being poor, the disadvantaged, the real victims forever, while creating more and more poor, the disadvantaged, the real victims.

However, the fact that "conservatives" are more compassionate and give far more to charities and the poor than "liberals" does NOT mean that their version of the State is any less immoral and oppressive than that of the "liberals".

For decades, I believed that the path to freedom included restoring our Constitutionally-limited Republic, but since we now have the tools to create the "Voluntary Society", in which we all have 100% freedom (available at www.Galambos.com, www.CapitalismTheLiberalRevolution.com & http://feeds.feedburner.com/FreedomainRadio), I prefer to invest my time, energy and resources creating that "Natural Republic", the Stable, Durable Civilization, since it's not only our only effective path to perpetual liberty, but our only method of preventing our own extinction, now that humans are finally smart enough in the physical sciences to destroy our species and not smart enough in the social "sciences" to prevent our own extinction.

Allowing the present tyrannical State to self-destruct before we've created a parallel, alternative social structure is probably not in our best interest. We must allow it to exist 'til we've built a new parallel society.

The Shammaites were an absolute *horror*, and they ruled with an iron fist. The Hillelites were very much in line with Jesus' thinking; and they were also the group with whom Paul was affiliated. Kurt Pi WWP Member [kurt31416@...] As someone that takes the side of the weak and poor against the strong and rich 100% of the time, it's about 50/50 these days.

Hint: Murdered babies aren't the strong and rich, and Saddam Hussein ain't the weak and poor, etc. etc.

FDR's Great Coalition between Blessed and the Poor and Family Values has been demolished. The Twisted Sisters took over the Democrats, and drove their mortal enemies, Family Values into the Filty Greed Republican party, where they get nothing but lip service.

So the Democrats could give a damn about the Poor, heck they could give a damn about the Middle Class, which is disappearing if you haven't noticed. All they care about is destroying Family Values and replacing it with their Twisted agenda, and the Poor are left to the tender mercies of Filthy Greed Republicans.

Robin Crane WWP Invitee (patriot451@...) I intended to give an example of how charitable giving is not fully counted
by so-called "studies" such as Don Divine sent around.

I give a huge amount of my income to people and groups that cannot be
deducted. Here are my final calculations:

                          Church as % of income:
                          7.7%

                          Political contributions as % of
                          income: 6.1%

Personal gifts to immigrants as % of income: 27.6%

Personal gifts to family & friends as % of income: 6.1%

All Other Contributions as % of income: 2.6%

Charitable contributions as % of income: 74.4%

TAX DEDUCTIBLE AS % OF INCOME: 10.3%

                          NON-TAX DEDUCTIBLE AS % OF INCOME: 64.1%

Look at the last two lines. Only the 10.3% that I give to church and the
2.6% that I give to 501(c)(3) organizations would show up in Don's cited
study. The OTHER 64.1% of income that I give away won't be counted.

[Moreover, what liberals and moderates willingly give away through taxes is
a sign of true generosity. The whining and belly-aching and screaming that
the Right does about taxes is a sign of selfishness. But that's a side
                          issue.]

In addition to the problems of capturing ALL giving, there's the difficulty
of defining who's a liberal and who's a conservative. If not done
carefully, the results will be meaningless.

Conservatives tend to give to religious institutions, while liberals tend
to give more to secular institutions. Religious institutions have a good
deal going with the government, such that almost all their activities are
captured as charity, even when the activities are largely political (viz.,
Karl Rove's 501(c)(4) in last prez election).

Moreover, at least some of the giving to churches is really quite
appropriately seen as payment for services rendered to the giver, while
giving to secular charities usually all goes for services that do NOT
accrue to the giver, so can be seen as more truly generous and selfless.

Other studies refute Don's assertions about which political identification
                          gives more, for example:

in the epistles. I've sent a png of Exodus 22:25 dealing with usery,
transliterated literally. In essence it states if you loan money to "my
people" and you are the reason "My People" are poor, you may not charge
                                          usery.

If, in fact, the Constitution is based upon the law of Moses, then
charging usery to the poor is unlawful. But Zion passed a law to
prohibit lending money to the poor in order to eliminate a myriad of
small businessmen (farmers) in the 50s. This alone is sufficient to
condemn the Christian Nation because it has violated too many of these
                                          commandments.

"The left advocates, legislates, and sometimes intimidates in its on-going attempts to guarantee equality of outcome in society regardless of merit or effort. Anyone on the right who dares claim that an unproductive member of society deserves less than a productive member is quickly labeled hard-hearted or mean-spirited. The left makes no connection between contribution and reward. Leftists find nothing wrong with taking from a productive person and giving to an unproductive person, even one who has the potential to be productive but makes no effort to be. Socialists call this government-ordained theft redistribution of wealth, one of president Obama's favorite concepts. The radical left thinks it is unfair for a thrifty, diligent, self-reliant producer who pulls America's economic wagon to have more than a lazy, irresponsible, entitled person who just rides in the wagon. This is one of the main reasons for socialism's long and consistent record of failure."

This statement really makes me laugh. I used to be labeled as a leftist because of my principles, now I'm going to be labelled a rightist because of the same principles. False compassion, hypocrisy indeed. Both Left and Right are the same, and caught in the middle are the ordinary people who one day (and hopefully soon)will realize that this is neither a Leftist's or a Rightist's world, but the world of the ordinary people and that these two opposite political spectrum are just creating a big mess of this world, and one day the ordinary people will put themselves in charge and start to clean up this mess. And the Days of the Ordinary people have arrived.

And if it's a month before you have to forgive all loans, you still have to loan the money.

It's a lot more than the mention of the word poor, such as God destroying Sodom because it didn't help the poor (sex not mentioned). Sometimes it's "widows and orphans" etc. Yes, there really are about 1000 cases.
