PFC Manning was never at Fort Leavenworth. He spent the past 3 years in military prison at Fort Meade, which will be credited towards his 35 yr. sentence ... which may be reduced, but will be dishonorably discharged without pay.

BTW ... Major Hasan's trial may be over soon. Hasan, who has been representing himself, has rested his case without a single witness. Has been wanted to be executed, so he can die as a martyr. After the military prosecutor has rested his case, the military judge will hand down sentence. Here lies the problem. Hasan is an American born Muslim and had refused his military assigned defense lawyers, as standby. Although Hasan has never committed a crime, according to him ... he had changed his mind, after GW Bush had declared war on Afghanistan and Iraq post 9-11. Why he went on his killing spree and neither was involved in 9-11. Even GW Bush had claimed the same, when not pre-scripted ... after US had illegally invaded Iraq.

Echo WWP Web Member and Poster (Echos70@...) His boss or bosses should be there with him with more time. provided the Web site WikiLeaks with hundreds of classified documents. When discovered by U.S. Army intelligence, Manning was arrested and jailed. He was court-martialed for leaking 700,000 documents. When arrested, it was alleged that Manning had downloaded classified documents on personal PC. How Manning was able to "leak" classified documents.

Hasan was court-martialed for murdering 13 US troops, which was premeditated.

His supervisor's appraisal has nothing to do with Hasan's murder spree. Nor has Hillary anything to do with it. Hasan was working at Walter Reed hospital, when receiving deployment orders to Afghanistan. When he refused, he was sent to Fort Hood. Fort Hood was the transfer base for returning and deployed US troops for Afghanistan. There was a shortage of doctors and nurses for US troops in Afghanistan. Allegedly Hasan was to work as a psychiatrist for up to a year, then eventually deployed to Afghanistan. Was sitting by himself in transfer station, while armed, when he went on his shooting spree. The latter has me baffled, as the military at Fort Hood had banned weapons, including private weapons on base. Based on increase of suicide and PTDS. With the exception of security, US troops were only allowed to carry weapons during exercise and on the range. Hasan was not living on base and had purchased his weapon off base.

Echo WWP Web Member and Poster (Echos70@...) Army units have no positions for Pvt's or Pfc's they are trained and
promoted out of that grade ASAP on assignment to first unit. If they screw up
they get busted back to that grade at times.

Every pay grade in the military has accountability to that level. So who
gave him that amount of classified information. Being an old PFC was RED
FLAG if I ever seen one, a screw up words, so he should have never been on the
                classified list to begin with.

Private recruit Manning will be at Fort Levenworth very
soon if not already there. He has a lot of years of Military training time
                24/7 to look forward to.

Hasan has a boss also that wrote a performance appraisal on him also.
he need to answer a bunch of question also. some one knew his feelings.

Military people cannot do like Hillary and claim sick when ask to account
for a big screw up like both of these.

Bet there will be more to come, wait and see. The Military will tell
only what they want the public to know. The rest is classified

Jan Fry WWP Member (rockysma1@...) Bradley Manning may not serve his full sentence. Is eligible for parole and has been granted hormone therapy for gender re-assignment. Manning is a transgender. As a security analyst, Manning had basically "leaked" atrocities committed, including diplomatic exchanges. But was not charged for compromising national security.

The Army was warned not to deploy Bradley Manning to Iraq, based on disciplinary actions. But the Army needed his skills and was short-staffed with intelligence analysts. But had failed in adequate supervision.

Un like Florida Blacks 17 year olds in the military are still adults and should be treated as such unless they cannot hack it, even at 20. Then they need to be sent home. This may be a good move on his part, as I am not aware of any military prison able to provide this and he will need to be transferred to a Federal prison for the process. I suspect he will get a bit less torture (which his judge ruled he had been) outside of the military justice system. For the crime of letting America know things like this:

While detained at Leavenworth's military prison, Manning won't be able to wear a bra or a wig. Since Manning was diagnosed as a transgender, more than likely Manning's case will be re-evaluated at Leavenworth's military prison, by a military counselor (psychiatry) Just because a military judge has ruled Manning is allowed hormone therapy, it doesn't necessarily mean that Manning was given the green light for gender re-assignment.

Jan Fry WWP Member (rockysma1@...) No prison, whether military or not, can provide this. As a military prisoner, Manning would be better off in military prison hospital ... while undergoing hormone therapy. Then under guard in hospital, during reconstructive surgery. * *Either way, it's a slow and painful process. While the outcome is not guaranteed.*

Stephen R King WWP Email Member (srking@...) I was not aware that he had been granted hormone therapy for gender re-assignment. This may be a good move on his part, as I am not aware of any military prison able to provide this and he will need to be transferred to a Federal prison for the process. I suspect he will get a bit less torture (which his judge ruled he had been) outside of the military justice system. For the crime of

Jan Fry WWP Member (rockysma1@...) Apparently prisons must provide hormone therapy, if prisoner has been on hormone therapy before being incarcerated, which apparently Manning had not received during his previous 3 year military incarceration, while kept in solitary and prior. And even if the military judge had given the green light for Manning be given hormone therapy, it does not mean the Army will follow through.
                                http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2013/08/getting-hormones-and-surgery-for-transgender-prisoners/278998/

I've only known one transgender in private sector and who had gone through the process, while in the 40s. Since the transition itself is quite costly in US and health insurance only covered hormone therapy, this person had to sell all personal belongings plus relying on private donations to cover gender re-assignment, which was done outside US ... where patient is able to recover in dignity. Last time I saw this person. person was still on hormone therapy and feminine ... while offering guarding lady's bathroom. Now living under new identity. Have also come across a patient in her 60s, who couldn't afford the gender re-assignment and was ridiculed for asking for a urinal. Even though not ambulatory. So can't imagine what it is like for an imprisoned transgender in any jail ... where there is no privacy.

Once hormone therapy starts in cases like this, stopping hormone treatments for any reasons, becomes a health issue. The younger the transgender goes through the process, the better health outcome. The longer they wait, general health is not guaranteed. In general a transgender receives hormone therapy pre surgery and maintenance hormone therapy post surgery. For how long, it depends on case by case.
Why we should care. An openly transgender is subject to hate crimes more so, than an openly gay or lesbian is. When an infant is born as a transgender, it is often dismissed by infant's parents, by readily assuming one sex overrides the other. Nor is gender re-assignment readily available for infants. More available after puberty, when one sex is more dominant.

In Manning's case, it appeared his parents had preferred and accepted Manning as a male. While his parents ended up in divorce, when Manning was very young. As a transgender leaning female, Manning was schooled in Wales and attended college in US. Then joined the Army, apparently at age 19. So despite any rhetoric from anyone, Manning was never given a chance. As no kid can afford the noxious cost of gender re-assignment on own.

Yes ... Manning had admitted to leaking classified documents, without compromising national security. But the Army is also at fault for deploying Manning to Iraq with security clearance with foreknowledge Manning had been disciplined more than once. With that foreknowledge, the Army has also failed in adequate supervision. While incarcerated at Leavenworth, Manning will only be privy to "his" lawyer. Spouse if any or family member visit will limited, if any.

Meanwhile ... it is a good thing that media is covering Manning's transgender plight, as it also places the spotlight on other incarcerated transgender and not just in military prisons. As a step towards basic human rights, which should be afforded to all.
