      PI2013 #466 - Observations On Student Loans

“I prefer the company of peasants because they have not become educated sufficiently to reason incorrectly.”

      ~  Michel de Montaigne

      Liberty Lovers,

http://www.usdebtclock.org: Every American Taxpayer Now “Owes” “The (federal) State” $148,406, every citizen $53,465.

Saturday, July 6th, 2013 National Public Radio (NPR)/American Public Media (APM)  ran clips of people with student loans.  Two had degrees in entertainment or sports management.  One owed $300,000; another was 65, anticipating  student loans  of $80K for a psychology doctorate.

“The State did not own men so entirely, even when it could send them to the stake, as it sometimes does now where it can send them to the elementary school."

       ~   G.K. Chesterton

Entertainment And Sports participation/Spectatorship are optional; they are avoidable/expendable when setting priorities for allocating money.  Degrees in these fields aren't as attractive as degrees in fields where demand for goods and services is stronger.

A Later Saturday Show echoed NPR/APM assessments of student loans.  This show, however, indicated a major problem with student loans centers on 'impractical' degrees.  People earning degrees in sciences or manufacturing were rated more likely to get good jobs and be able to retire loans.

"Real education must ultimately be limited to men who insist on knowing, the rest is mere sheep-herding."

      Ezra Pound

Student Loans From 'Government' add to loan costs (to tax payers) by allowing varying degrees of 'forgiveness' based on employment in certain jobs, or a recford of meeting installments.  Loans should be restricted to academic achievement for practical, in-demand avocations, and full repayment required.

"The great aim of education is not knowledge, but action."

      ~  Herbert Spencer

People Intending To Live In Liberty do not allow legislators - or other public officials within These United States of America, to permit federal authorities or courts to define or limit their 10th Amendment powers beyond specific Constitutional restraint. They uphold self-government.
