Group Description

A fresh look at Philip Jose Farmer's Wold Newton Universe as expanded and explored by Win Scott Eckert and the New Wold Newton Meteorics Society.

Philip Jose Farmer introduced the Wold Newton Family concept in TARZAN ALIVE, published in 1972. Win Scott Eckert introduced the term "Wold Newton Universe" on his website, 'An Expansion of Philip Jose Farmer's Wold Newton Universe', inaugurated in 1997.

In 2006, MYTHS FOR THE MODERN AGE, edited by Win Scott Eckert, the first "post-Farmerian" collection of essays, was released and ushered into print the next generation of players in the WNU sandbox (after the late lamented Wold Atlas zine). Eckert and Farmer contributed essays, as did Dennis E Power, Rick Lai, Christopher Paul Carey, Chuck Loridans, John Small, Brad Mengel, Art Bollmann, Jess Nevins, and other modern creative mythographers of note.

2010 saw the release of Win's magnum opus, CROSSOVERS, Volumes 1 & 2, published by veteran Wold Newton author, essayist and publisher Jean-Marc Lofficier. CROSSOVERS' exhaustive chronology of the WNU lays the groundwork for a bright future of WNU essays and works of fiction, in print and on the web, in prose and in comics.

In 2012, Titan Books began a long-overdue series of reprints of Philip Jose Farmer's work, including a beautiful new 'Wold Newton' line of titles.

Philip Jose Farmer, The Maker of Universes, has left ours behind for a more radiant one. On June 10th, 2009, Bette Farmer, Phil's wife of over 67 years, passed away as well. Thank you, Mr. Farmer, for making this reality - and many others, no doubt - infinitely more wondrous. We love you, Phil. And thank you, Bette, for the warmth and hospitality you extended to Phil's fans throughout the many decades of his career. Bette, we love you as well.
