British rock icons ‘The Who’ donate equipment to LIC Bar
British rock legends The Who are donating music equipment to the owners
> of a popular Long Island City venue that was ravaged by Hurricane Sandy.S
> LIC Bar, which is well known for hosting bands at its 45-58 Vernon
> Boulevard location, lost its entire sound system when the saloons basement
> was flooded with seven feet of water.
> The Who became aware of the bars struggles, when a friend of the bar
> reached out to the band when it was playing a gig in Brooklyn in November.
> The Who asked their people about our plight, said Gustavo Rodriguez,
> the talent booker. They then decided to send us complimentary replacement
> While LIC Bar has been able to stage musical acts since its reopening
> using borrowed equipment, it was unable to stage an official music showcase
> until last Wednesday.
> The enormous cost of post-Sandy repairs combined with the revenue it lost
> during the 20 days it had to close made the purchase of new equipment a
> secondary priority.
> Now, thanks to The Who, LIC Bars sound system will get a much needed
> upgrade. Theyre sending free amplifiers and microphones to replace those
> lost in the flood, said Gustavo. The shipment is expected any day now.
