7840Re: [Weta-Trimarans] Standing rigging, shrouds, side stays
- Aug 23, 2014I recently replaced (upgraded) my ama padeyes. There is a properly placed stainless steel backing plate in my amas. The new padeye I put on has the holes slightly further apart. I used the existing forward hole. But, because the new rear hole might miss the steel backing plate, I used large washers on all four bolts. I cupped the washers slightly. I have only sailed the boat 4 times since the upgrade, but so far, so good.Your boat, #778, should not need to be upgraded. It should already have forged, stainless steel saddles from the the Weta factory.Bob Shirley

Were the pad eyes breaking or were the screws pulling out?I have #778 so I'm assuming what I have are the newer one piece pad eyes (saddles) but still wonder exactly what those screws are biting into. Several of the reinforcement blocks under some of cleats are ill-placed and the mounting screws are only into the hull, completely missing the under deck reinforcement blocks. I hope that's not the case with my ama pad eyes!
