All radios manufactured or sold in USA between 1953 and 1963 had to have the 640 and 1240 kilocycle CD triangle mark on the radio's dial.  This was required by law.  Also, starting on Jan 2, 1957, all amateur Radio operators who were transmitting were required to monitor a local broadcast station and check it every 10 minutes.  If the local station stopped broadcasting  hams had to cease transmitting immediately.  There were several gimmick circuits  that would monitor a  local frequency and if there was no carrier detected, would shut off the ham's transmitter.  It's in the 1958 ARRL Handbook.
