Re: [W8ZHO] Quiet sun
- Well, it is an election year.My guess is that we will see some big changes come December.Besides, we don't need no stinking sunspots. I managed to work a JA station at the minimum with a home brew antenna in a small tree with 174.365 watts from a 40 year old Swan 350 that you helped me get up and running! On SSB to boot. With a mike from a CB radio and an adaptor contained in a 35mm film canister. When the election is over the spots will appear with a vengeance allowing us to work the world with 5 or 10 green watts and the President elect will get all the credit as has been planned.I really don't see how we can lose with both candidates being at least part Irish. How about we come up with a design for a shamrock dipole using green wire and eating bland food and listening to loud Celtic music to celebrate. If I don't show up trust me, I will have a very good excuse. Like having to fold the laundry or collecting election signs from the neighborhood to burn for heat in our fireplace.Change, good or bad, is indeed just around the corner but no matter what I am quite confident that hams will circumvent the world regardless of the circumstances.73Mark K8MHZ----- Original Message -----From: Al PeppingSent: Wednesday, October 01, 2008 07:28Subject: [W8ZHO] Quiet sunHowdy DX-ers.NASA reports that as of 09/27/2008, the sun has been totally void of sunspots for 200 days. The last time that happened was in 1954. I wasn't a ham then, but this period was what the old timers call the greatest 11 year DX cycle on record (Cycle 19) which began in 1954 and ran for 11 years ending in 1965. There are records of sunspot minima lasting longer than the One in 1954, but this was before "radio". Is history repeating itself??? When this cycle wakes up , will it be as intense as Cycle 19 ??? We shall see........ This is not a prediction, just a historical observation. Who was it that said " You can't know where you are going if you don't know where you've been ????&nb; Al...KV8X
