Re: [WestMichiganHams] SSB getting started
- There are two nets I can think off off the top of my mind. Both are on 144.155 USB. One is run every day at 8:30 AM by N9NDP in Racine, WI. The other is on Sunday nights at 9:30 PM by K8NFT in Holland.
The USB calling frequency is 144.200. The keyboard digital frequency is 144.150, and the meteor scatter calling frequency is 144.140.
At the moment, I'm down to using a half-deaf Icom 706 for 2m SSB but it's probably enough for digital, and maybe SSB if you want to set up a sked.

- Hi Paul..A couple of tips for SSB operation on 2 meters. First, you have to use horizontal polarization for SSB and CW on 2 meters. Vertical will work, IF the other station is using a vertical also, but horizontal polarization is the convention. Most CQ and calling activity centers around 144.200 USB. There is a 2 meter SSB net that meets Sunday nights at 2130 hrs local time, on a freq of 144.155. The net control is located in Holland. When the band is open, you can typically talk 200-300 miles without any problem. Simplex range is around 100 miles with station using yagis. Don't forget meteor scatter and there are beacons to test how good your antenna is working. This should get your feet wet.Al...KV8X-------Original Message-------From: WilsonDate: 1/7/2008 2:31:07 PMSubject: Re: [WestMichiganHams] SSB getting startedHi Paul,Go to the groups site and under "files" I uploaded a spread sheet listing all the known, so far, net's from 160 M ~ 70 cm. Add any you run across to the sheet and upload it to the file's section.73de Tom KD8DEG

I was on 2M SSB a number of years ago and my range was typically 200+
miles with a dead band, and up from there with better conditions. Of
course there are numerous variables here.
