We tried to wean Komet and Stjarna on Sunday by
swapping them out. Imp didn't mind Komet being in
with them for at least 20 minutes. He had said hello and
kept an eye on him as he ran around calling for mommy.
Brega and Sky just pinned ears and shook heads when
he got to near their hay. (Sky didn't care that Stjarna was
calling and running in the other pasture either). Problem
came when Komet got about 15 feet from Ebony and she
went after him with the intent of making horse burgers.
That's is when Imp ran Komet off, but we aren't sure if it was
to calm the herd, protect the mares, or for Komet's own safety.
Anyway he is staying down at the far end of the pasture now
and is slowly inching his way back up. Imp is mostly ignoring
and not chasing him if he gets in sight. He does look up and
prick his ears when he sees him, then goes back to grazing.
Meanwhile Catty is charging Stjarna. Doing aimed kicks and
bites but they had settled down when we went to check on
Stjarna was still running the fence and calling while the others
back to eating. Sky was not answering , Brega did a few times.
Heard a crash/clang and the filly was out. I don't know if she
tried to jump the fence or ran through it. She may have just
decided to leave like her mom did in the round pen. Put her
back in the ten acre with the rest of the herd. Kristin spent
of Monday fixing fence and hot wire. Stjarna had broken off a
redwood 6x6 post and stretched the woven wire. I helped after
I got off work. (Kristin gets Sunday and Monday off).
Next Sunday is shots. Joy.
P.S. Nobody was injured, Komet has a nip on the left hind
