The Mayor’s One City Summer Initiative is seeking partners to do outreach at our Summer Kick-off event (June 15), and during select evening outreach events between July 1 and August 9.
The Summer Kick-off @ Truck Touch—Saturday, June 15, 9 am-5 pm
This summer, the Kick-off will take place alongside the Department of Public Works’ highly popular Truck Touch event, at RFK Stadium’s Parking Lots 6 & 7. Truck Touch draws families and younger children, to climb in DC Government agency trucks, helicopters, and vehicles; and visitors learn about the work these agencies do for the residents of the city. Truck Touch will go from 9 am-2pm, and the Summer Kick-off will run through 5pm. The Summer Kick-off draws mostly teens and school-age youth to learn about all the resources, services, and opportunities that exist in the city during the summer and beyond. The atmosphere is energetic-- there are youth performances and bands, a basketball tournament, hot dogs and hamburgers, and a generally festive mood.
There will be upwards of 5000 residents attending the Summer Kick-off @ Truck Touch, so it’s a great opportunity to see large numbers of residents—particularly teens.

Target Area Evening Outreach—July 1-August 9, 6-9 pm
Evening outreach events will be held twice weekly in each of our ten target areas—neighborhoods with a high overlapping incidence of various social risk factors—and the shelter at DC General Hospital. Outreach will take place between the hours of 6-9 pm, in a designated community space, coordinated by young adults who are connected to the communities. We are asking community partners to do four (4) outreach nights over the course of the summer—though we would be appreciative of any number of events you could do. A limited number of mini-grants are available to help support the work, if needed. For more information, contact the One City Summer Initiative Coordinator, Rebecca Renard, at rrenard@...
