      Minutes of the ANC1A Regular Meeting

      held on October 10, 2012 at Tubman Elementary School, D.C.

       

      Chairman Thomas Boisvert began the meeting at 7:06 p.m. Commissioners present for the meeting were: Lisa Kralovic (1A01), Vickey Wright-Smith (1A02), Laina Aquiline (1A05), Thomas Boisvert (1A07), Kent Boese (1A08), Bobby Holmes (1A09), and Lenwood O. Johnson (1A10). Commissioners absent were Sheldon Scott (1A03), Betty Pair (1A04), William Brown (1A06), and Dotti Love Wade (1A11). Approximately 21 persons attended the meeting.

       

      Community Announcements

       

      Several persons spoke under the Community Announcements portion:

      Commissioner Wright-Smith – made an announcement about the Greater First Baptist Church’s Annual Health Fair scheduled for October 27th. She also reminded attendees about the MPD PSA 409 meeting scheduled for October 17th at 750 Park Road.

      Tamekia McMahon – announced the upcoming Criminal Justice Coordinating Council Public Meeting scheduled for October 25th at Thurgood Marshall Academy.

      Claudia Barahona – updated the community on efforts to improve the Bruce-Monroe Community Park, including involvement by Coucilmember Jim Graham. The next meeting is scheduled for October 16th at the Emergence Community Art Collective

      Sylvia Robinson – made a general announcement about the Georgia Avenue Community Development Task Force, its purpose, and meeting dates and times.

      Al Zegwue – alerted the community about the start of the Park View Recreation Center’s winter sports activities.

      Commissioner Wright-Smith – provided a brief update on the condemnation hearing for 1483 Newton Street, NW. The hearing is scheduled for October 24th at 10:40 a.m.

       

      Committee Reports

       

      Commissioner Boese spoke briefly about the forthcoming report from the ANC 1A Task Force assembled to consider banning single sales. Boese stated that while the report was not yet in a state to file, the general recommendation will be that ANC 1A not move forward with this ban at the ANC level, but rather request that the D.C. Council review all ABRA legislation and develop rules and regulations for the entire District that are fair and uniform.

      Cecilia Jones presented and distributed the ANC 1A October 2012 Public Safety Report.

       

      Presentations

       

      Commissioner Aquiline gave a brief presentation about a potential pilot program that would allow DC USA to subsidize parking on Sundays to support area churches in the Washington Interfaith Network. A more formal presentation is expected at the November ANC 1A meeting.

      Commissioner Aquiline briefly outlined the community initiative to create a Friends of the Park group for the park at 16th Street and Park Road.

       

      Official Business

       

      Commissioner Boisvert introduced a Grant application in the amount of $400 for the Friends of the 11th & Monroe Park’s Trolley Park Picnic and pumpkin decorating event. Commissioner Johnson requested the D.C. Auditor weigh in on the use of ANC funds for pumpkins. Commissioner Boisvert moved to approve the grant, pending review and approval from the D.C. Auditor on the use of funds for pumpkins.

      • Motion was approved, 7 Commissioners voting “Yes”; 0 voting “No”; 0 Abstaining.

      Commissioner Boisvert introduced a Grant application in the amount of $1,000 for the Winter Tournament of Games. Commissioner Boisvert moved to approve the grant.

      • Motion was approved, 7 Commissioners voting “Yes”; 0 voting “No”; 0 Abstaining.

      Commissioner Aquiline introduced a Grant application in the amount of $500 for We Are Family. Commissioner Aquiline moved to increase the amount to $1,000. Commissioner Boisvert moved to approve the grant.

      • Motion was approved, 7 Commissioners voting “Yes”; 0 voting “No”; 0 Abstaining.

      Commissioner Johnson introduced a Letter of Support for a Stipulated License Request for Ma Ma’s Southern Cuisine (3118 Georgia Avenue). Commissioner Johnson moved to approve the letter.

      • Motion was approved, 7 Commissioners voting “Yes”; 0 voting “No”; 0 Abstaining.

      Adjournment

       

      Chairman Boisvert adjourned the meeting at 8:03 PM.
