      Greetings,

The next meeting of the Georgia Avenue Community Development Task Force will be Monday October 11th from 7-9pm at the Emergence Community Arts Collective at 733 Euclid St. NW.

One of the topics on the agenda will be a presentation from Karen Woodson from Americans for Safe Access to provide information on Medical Marijuana Clinics - what the law is providing for and the potential impact they can have in a community.  A clinic has not officially been proposed for Georgia Avenue as yet but inquiries have been made.

Also, DMPED will be working on a redevelopment of the District-owned lot located at 965 Sherman Ave NW(east of the intersection of Sherman Avenue NW and Florida Ave NW; just south of the Howard Plaza Towers).  They are looking for input from the community on what should be developed on that site. They will make an announcment about this on Monday, and make a more formal presentation on October 25th.

      In other news,

      - The Pleasant Plains Civic Association meeting is this Saturday October 9th from 12-2 at the Banneker Recreation Center

      - A full report on the Community Review held August 7th, including reproductions of some of the graphics and photos of vacant properties can be downloaded at https://sites.google.com/site/pleasantplainsdc/task-force/Aug_7th_Community_Review_Report.pdf   This was compiled by the  Interns that supported the Task Force this past summer.

What is the Georgia Avenue Community Development Task Force?

A grassroots organization which is looking at strategies for speeding up revitalization of the Lower Georgia Avenue corridor from New Hampshire Avenue to S St. The task force hopes to affect legislation and zoning laws to make sure that development on Georgia Avenue meets the needs of all of its stakeholders.
The group is working to shape future development on Georgia Avenue by forming a coalition with all of its constituents including residents, businesses, churches, senior citizens and youth, as well as community organizations.

All Georgia Avenue stakeholders are invited to attend and to become a member of the Task Force. To join please contact Sylvia Robinson for more information at 202-462-2285 or Sylvia@....
