      2) Ward Eight Red and White Ball
The Ward Eight Democrats hosted a Red and White Ball.  The event was held at the Navy Yard Banquet Facility in South East DC on July 23.  This was a good event that gave residents of the Ward and friends a good opportunity to celebrate as election season intensifies.  Photos and a short video of the event can be seen at: http://www.dcdsc.org/events/w8/redandwhiteball.htm.

        2) DC Democratic Party Chair statement submitted to BOEE on 8/25/10 hearing
Yesterday, the DC Board of Elections and Ethics voted unanimously against the request from the Fenty 2010 campaign to repeal the Board's Aug. 12, 2010 ruling concerning "unaffiliated" voters participation in primary elections. The DCBOEE upheld that only Democrats registered 30 days preceding the election will be able to participate in the September 14, 2010 Democratic Primary.   DC Democratic Party Chair Anita Bonds, submitted a statement to the DC Board of Elections and Ethics on the hearing held August 25, 2010.  You can read the statement at: http://www.dcdsc.org/docs/DCBOEE%20Aug%2025%202010%20hearing%20letter.pdf.  You can also read a good analysis on voter matters concerning this issue by veteran voter expert Bill O'Field on his blog http://electioneducationinc.blogspot.com

        3) Over 1000 votes at Ward 5 Straw Poll, see results
The Ward 5 Democrats saw over 1000 voters come to their Ward 5 Democrats Straw Poll on August 23.  The results of the Straw Poll can be found at: http://www.ward5democrats.org.  There is also a video of the long line, crowd, and some of the candidates that showed to greet voters.  Straw Polls winners include, Congresswoman Norton, Chairman Vince Gray, and Councilmember Harry Thomas Jr.  The Straw Poll did not include candidates forum.  The iReporter announced the Straw Poll a couple of weeks before the August 23 date.  To no surprise, not only did the Fenty campaign forgo event, possibly the reason why Mayor Fenty received under 200 of the 1000 votes, but the campaign wants to excuse itself again for disrespecting voters, by claiming “they were not notified” about the straw poll.  We’ll quote Congresswoman Norton here, “Even when I run unopposed, I go to people and ask for their vote, because it shows them respect and it’s the right thing to do.”

        4) National Council of Negro Women hosts candidate forum
The National Council on Negro Women hosted a candidate forum on August 17, 2010.  This organization is home to the late Dorothy Height.  The forum had its intense moments, including when Mayor Fenty was put on the spot by candidate Leo Alexander concerning his disrespect of the late Civil Rights leader.  To view photos of event and most of the forum on video, visit http://www.maestropc.com/event/ncnwforum2010.htm.

        5) Muslim Democratic Caucus of DC holds Press Conference to announce endorsement results
The Muslim Democratic Caucus of DC held a candidates forum and a straw poll at Howard University School of Law on August 20th.  The Caucus held a Press Conference on Sunday, August 22, to announce straw poll results.  Amongst straw poll winners were: Vincent Gray, Kwame R Brown, Phil Mendelson and Jeff Smith.  Please go to http://www.maestropc.com/event/muslincaucus2010.htm to see photos and video of event.
