Mackinac State Historic Parks is seeking reenactment groups and individuals to participate in a series of events commemorating the bicentennial of the Battle of Mackinac Island on August 2-4, 2014. Most of the events will take place at Fort Mackinac, on Mackinac Island, Michigan. British and American regular infantry and artillery, Canadian and American militia, naval elements, and Native American groups are all welcome to apply. Events will include tours and demonstrations at Fort Mackinac, a scheduled visit with dockside tours and a cruise aboard the reconstructed brig Niagara, a concert of 1812-era military music, bike tours of 1812-related sites on Mackinac Island, and the reenactment of the battle itself. The battle will take place on August 4 on the original battlefield. In return for participation through the entire weekend, Mackinac State Historic Parks will provide complimentary ferry tickets to and from Mackinac Island (a $25 value), heavy freight transportation for large objects such as artillery pieces, baggage transportation on Mackinac Island, historic camping areas just outside Fort Mackinac (modern restrooms available inside the fort), transportation to and from the battlefield, and a commemorative medal. More information and an application form can be found here: http://www.mackinacparks.com/reenacting/. Please call or email Craig Wilson at wilsonc20@... or 231-436-4100 for more information.

Planning continues for the Battle of Mackinac Island bicentennial event on August 2-4. We're still looking for participants to join Mackinac State Historic Parks in marking the 200th anniversary of the only battle fought on Mackinac Island, which itself represented the climax of a summer-long American campaign. An application form for the event can be found here. Applications are due by June 16, and can be emailed to Craig Wilson at wilsonc20@... or mailed to Craig Wilson, Mackinac State Historic Parks, P.O. Box 873, Mackinaw City, MI 49701. We hope to see you in August!
