Volunteer Militia Drill Day
MONROE, Michigan. Superintendent Scott J. Bentley announced today that River Raisin National Battlefield Park will be hosting a Volunteer Militia Drill Day at the River Raisin National Battlefield Park on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Join the Volunteer Militia! See if you would have had what it took to join an early 19th century volunteer militia company? Learn just what was required as the 1st Regiment of Volunteers demonstrates a typical 1800s Drill Day.
Members would typically assemble for a day of military maneuvers such as erecting tents, marching, and firing muskets. Meanwhile the women folk would focus on the domestic arts, such as sewing, cooking, etc..
