Battle of Ogdensburg Feb. 22-24.
- There is still time register for the Battle of OgdensburgFriday, Feb. 22, Saturday, Feb. 23 and Sunday, Feb. 24. As a bicentennial event, more re-enactors than ever have already registered.
Friday, the Freight House Restaurant is laying on a special chicken dinner for $10. Horst Dressler will introduce his new book on Les Voltiquers canadiens. Also, Tim McCabe and Deb Jansen, the owners of the Freight House, are opening the banquet hall to re-enactors who want to bed down on their own cots and air mattress. Saturday and Sunday mornings there'll be a $5 breakfast for the overnighters.
The bicentennial of the battle of Ogdensburg will be commemorated with a Saturday street battle following a similar route to the one taken by the Anglo-Canadian army Feb. 22, 1813. The pipes and drums of the Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Highland Regiment from Cornwall, Ontario will play an informal concert following the battle and then join the re-enactors to drain kegs and inhale chicken wings at the Freight House bar.
The Glengarry Light Infantry Fencibles are the ancestral unit of the Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Highlanders.
Sunday the battle returns to Lighthouse Point were the attack ended 200 years ago.
Friday night the Ontario shore will send up a barrage of fireworks to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the attack from Prescott.
