No, not a joke at all. And, oddly enough, 100% on topic! Rod Lee s has recently published A Directory of the Officers and Men of the Royal Newfoundland

No, not a joke at all. And, oddly enough, 100% on topic!

Rod Lee's has recently published "A Directory of the Officers and Men of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, 1796-1816". In it he lists over 200 men who had previous military experience before joining the Newfoundland Regiment.

Among them are two men of Capt. Morris'company:

"Private, Sylvester Berry or Benjamin - had served 15 years with the West Indian Regiment."
      and
"Private Stokes, Joseph – 1 year 182 days with the Third West India Regiment."

While officers and senior NCOs of the West India Regiment they usually came from Britain, is it likely that these two men would have been black West Indians? Your comments and suggestions are invited.
