New Member Greetings & Intro
- Greetings! I'm Tom Oxley, from Dayton, Ohio, and have joined this group hoping to get help with uniform and equipment details as I start working on some miniatures gaming projects. With the war's bicentennial just next year, I'm going to be running some War of 1812 games at a game day at Fort Meigs in May of 2012, and hope to have a game covering the siege of the fort by the following year. I know of few better sources for details than those who work towards accurate reenactment of the war, and have had great help from other reenactment groups under similar circumstances in other eras.
I am a retired US Army NCO, former military history instructor at the Army Chaplain School when it was located at Fort Monmouth, NJ, and long time historical miniatures and board gamer. I've been attending the Drums gaming event at Fort Meigs for several years now and really enjoy the opportunity to get out and wander the fort between games. This past May, while I ran a battle from the WW2 Anzio campaign in the fort gift shop area, I got to watch several reenactors wander around the area.
My miniatures gaming is done predominatly in 6mm scale, where exact details such as button patterns are not necessary, but having the colors and general appearance right is just as important as it is in larger game scales. I have already started planning for building of the fort in a scale that will look right for my 6mm armies.
I thank you for the opportunity to visit this group and to ask questions as they come up.
