      Unit Commanders,

      Please inform your members

      I am ordered to forward the following

      L. Lozon ~ AdC

      Naval Establishments
      Crown Forces North America
      May 27th, 2011

      General Signal

      The Navy On The Lakes: Sailors Of 1812
      July 14-16, 2012

      Navy Hall and Fort George National Historic Park
      Niagara-on-the-lake, Ontario, Canada

      The Naval Establishments is pleased to announce that in partnership with
      Parks Canada, the Colonial Sailor Program (CSP) of the Directorate of Naval
      History and Heritage, Ottawa, sponsors of the Dockyard Founding event at
      Halifax in 2009, will sponsor a major 1812 naval event at
      Niagara-on-the-lake, Ontario, on the weekend of July 14-16, 2012. A "tall
      ship" squadron and a flotilla of longboats is planned, with contracts to be
      offered by the CSP to ships and boats to allow them to participate. Boats'
      crews, marine units (and infantry units known to have served afloat) will be
      invited, as will naval gun crews and individual naval re-enactors. Dress is
      to be that of 1812, to a high standard of accuracy. I am to serve as Event
      Designer and Coordinator.

      The event will be headquartered at Navy Hall, which will be available for
      social functions including a planned major "Up Spirits!" for all hands. The
      participants are to encamp on the grounds of Navy Hall, and in Fort George
      as may be required. Provision of meals and other amenities is planned. The
      Navy Hall dock will be reserved for participating longboats and bateaux, and
      the "tall ship" flotilla, when not maneuvering or at anchor, will be berthed
      at the Niagara-on-the-lake Sailing Club, where the longboat launch ramp is

      The program will be extensive, and will include a Friday voyage over from
      Toronto of the "tall ship" Squadron; a Friday evening "Meet and Greet";
      shore demonstrations and public access to the encampment; a Parade in the
      Town and presentation to civic authorities; an assault landing and sham
      battle with 'pyro' support; rowpasts and sailpasts; the awarding of the
      "Cock Of The Walk" award to the best longboat and crew, and the "Dick
      Deadeye Award" to the best naval or marine re-enactor; period music in the
      encampment; the now-legendary "Up Spirits!" tot of rum issue and Reception;
      "runs ashore" in uniform to Niagara-on-the-lake's many fine establishments;
      and additional planned activities.

      I will be meeting with Parks Canada staff in NOTL Friday 3 June to begin
      detailed planning, and will take part in a "recce" test voyage to NOTL from
      Toronto and return, 15-17 July of this year, in the cutter "Witch of A'burg",
      to assess requirements for the 2012 event.

      Invitations to boat's crews, ships, and units will be forthcoming, but
      expressions of interest may be directed to me, at suthren(at)magma.ca

      I have the Honour to be,
      With great Regard

      Victor Suthren
