"A Matter of Honour"
- Lists:I have just had the distinct pleasure of reading Jonathon Riley's new book "A Matter of Honour: The Life, Campaigns and Generalship of Isaac Brock" (Montreal: Robin Brass Studio, 2011). The book is also available from Frontline Books in the UK.I recommend the book highly to all interested in the military history of the late 18th and early 19th century, especially those of us who are besotted by the War of 1812.Riley writes in an extremely engaging manner and has produced a real page-turner. His research is profound, his scholarship solid and his judgments always judicious. He writes as a serving General Officer about a General Officer, and is able to bring to bear the niceties of grand strategy, leadership and military imagination so necessary for such a position. He also offers detailed and at time sympathetic portraits of Brock's opponents, such as William Hull.I obtained my copy of the book from the bookstore at Fort George, but I am sure it will be on the shelves of many good bookstores soon.I rmain etc.Ray HobbsHon.
