Fort Ontario War of 1812 Symposium April 2
- Friends of Fort Ontario State Historic Site will be co-hosting a War 1812 seminar in Oswego, NY on April 2, 2011, 9 AM - 5 PM. The facility for the seminar has not been chosen yet but it will be held in the City of Oswego. Dr. Gary Gibson will speak on the Mohawk River-Oneida Lake-Oswego River-Lake Ontario supply route from Schenectady to Sacket's Harbor. Matt Mac Vittie of the Onondaga Historical Association will talk on militia activities in Oswego, Richard Palmer will discuss William Cooper's "Ark" or floating battery built in Oswego and destined for Sacket's Harbor, Greg Monette and Sean Doyle will do a program on current research efforts on Oswego 1812 veterans and grave markers, and Fort Ontario Site Manager Paul Lear will speak on the May 5-7 Battle of Oswego. Continental Arms Collectors will set up an exhibit on War of 1812 artifacts. Friends will sell 1812 books and raffle off items.
