Battle of Bladensburg Encampment
- Just wanted to remind both local Chesapeake forces and those of you further afield that Riversdale's Battle of Bladensburg encampment this year will be on Saturday, August 14, noon to 4:00 pm. Immediately following there will be a historic happy hour for the interpreters.
Riversdale is located at 4811 Riverdale Road in the town of Riverdale Park MD. Rosalie Stier Calvert, the mistress of the house in 1814, wrote on August 30, "we have been in a state of continual alarm. . . .During the battle I saw several cannonballs with my own eyes" (we think she probably saw Congreve rockets, as she wasn't THAT close to the battlefield).
We welcome both uniformed and civilian interpreters and will pay a modest powder allowance per uniformed interpreter.
Please call or email me for details.
