      Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the delay in getting this thank you out to everyone who
attended Wasaga under Siege 2009 and helped make it happen. Please pass it
along to your group members and anyone else you think it should be sent to.

On behalf of the Town of Wasaga Beach, Nancy Island Historic Site,
Wasaga Provincial Park and the Historic Military Establishment of Upper
Canada, I would like to thank all the re-enactors and participants who
attended Wasaga under Siege 2009. The event was a great success with over
300 re-enactors participating. Big thanks go out to everyone who helped make
this event successful by participating in the battles, parades, pillaging,
raiding parties and animation within the grand encampment at Nancy Island.
Everyone's patience getting on and especially off the island and using the
shuttle service getting back and forth from Wasaga Nordic Trails parking
      area was greatly appreciated.
I would also like to thank everyone for your patience with the weather and
making the best out of a very wet weekend especially on Sunday when everyone
      was packing up and leaving.

The great music and entertainment provided by Hardtack & Harmony, Washboard
Hank, the Zoom Daddy's, Freshwater Trade, Shaymus the Story Teller,
On-gwe-ho-way, Caber Toss, Backroads, Dr. Quimby and Pauline Grondin as
Laura Secord added much value to the event. The open stage performance on
Friday and Saturday evenings was excellent with more than 15 performers and
musicians on the stage at some points.

E.L.M catering provided great food and the Community Emergency Response Team
providing 24hr first aid on-site service did an excellent job.

The biggest thank you goes out to the volunteer crew and the staff at Nancy
Island Historic Site who worked extremely hard setting up, driving the golf
cars, registration, admissions, snack bar, shuttle service and various other
duties too numerous to mention and of course clean-up and take down. I would
personally like to thank the following people for their extra effort in
      making this event happen:

John Fisher - Superintendent - Wasaga Beach Provincial Park

Greg Forbes - Assistant Superintendent - Wasaga Beach Provincial Park

A big thank you to all the re-enactors who did sentry duty at the bridge
over the weekend, it was greatly appreciated and well received by the
public. Your help in monitoring re-enactors coming on and off the island
was also appreciated. A big thanks goes out to all the re-enactors in
general for maintaining your historical appearance in the grand encampment,
garbage and recycling rules and exiting the island on Monday morning. Your
donations of beer cans/bottles and liquor containers totalled $55.00 and
      were greatly appreciated.

The 50/50 draw was won by Vern Coon from Plymouth, Michigan who is a member
of the Provincial Marine and he took home $213.50. Thank you to everyone who
purchased a ticket and also to Marilyn Wooldridge for helping to sell
      tickets as well.

I would also like to thank Darlene Kingstone and her IMUC crew who had a
hand in making the Saturday afternoon tea and seminar a great success.

Special thanks go out to the following groups and individuals for bringing
there boats and canoes and the local O.P.P. & Ontario Parks marine units for

      HMS Ferret - Charles Fitton

I would also like to thank all those hearty re-enactors who took on the
mighty Nottawasaga River and conquered her during the Voyageur & Bateau Run
from Nancy Island to Schooner Town and back and all the residents and
spectators along the river who waited for them to come by and showed their
patriotic support for King and country.

The Iron Man contest was cut short this year due to poor weather, however
Matt Webb at that point had the best time and was declared the 2009 winner.
The Iron Women contest was a complete weather washout and never took place.
Thanks to everyone who participated or who were going to participate and
look forward to seeing you participate next year.

By all accounts your leadership in this event was impressive. As you are heading up one of Ontario's six commemorative divisions for the War of 1812 Bicentennial, sounds like good things will happen up there in 2012-2014. Good luck with it all.
