      July 18-20, 2008

      Lieutenant Thomas Hurlbut, Event Chair, and his Committee have put together an excellent programme for the 2008 School of the Sailor, and all members of the Naval Establishment, and members of the military not otherwise committed to CFNA activities, are urged to attend this encampment-format school at a beautiful and historic site.

      A summary of Lt. Hurlbut's Schedule is as follows:

      Friday 18 July

      1700-2400

      Arrival of all hands by road at Discovery Harbour (North End entrace)
      Preparation for launch of boats and ferrying to South End beach and jetty
      Incoming sailing vessels arrive at South End jetty

      1900-2400

      'Meet and Greet' at Event Chair's Marquee, encampment.

      Saturday 19 July

      0700

      Breakfast, all hands, at Headquarters (Children's centre)

      0800

      All hands Fall In for Morning Divisions and Colours.
      Address by Site Manager, Event Chair and CFNA Commodore

      0900

      Seamanship shore classes begin (Time Slot 1)
      Selected boats demonstrate harbour survey

      1000

      Seamanship shore classes change (Time Slot 2)
      Site open to Public
      Special 'Colours' raising for public (team to be selected)

      1100

      Seamanship classes change (Time Slot 3)
      Marines and Infantry Drill Demonstration

      1200

      Lunch all hands, including ship's crews. Location TBD

      1300

      Second wave of boats demonstreate harbour survey
      Seamanship shore classes recommence (Time Slot 4)

      1400

      Seamanship classes change (Time Slot 5)
      Public demonstration of small arms (TBD)

      1500

      Classes secure. Participants man all boats and ready them for Commodore's rowpast/sailpast

      1600

      Commodore's Rowpast and Sailpast, South End jetty. Review of boats for 'Cock Of The Walk" trophy by Commodore and Naval Establishment officers.

      1700

      Public demonstration of Evening Divisions, Lowering of Colours. Site closes to public.

      1800

      Commodore's Reception at Headquarters. Awarding of 'Cock Of The Walk' Trophy by by special guest Staff Officer Heritage, Chief of the Maritime Staff (Canadian Navy), National Defence Headquarters, Ottawa

      1900

      Dinner, all hands, at Headquarters

      2000

      Entertainment by participant boats' crews.

      2400

      Close of activities.



      Sunday 20 July

      0700

      Breakfast, all hands, at Headquarters

      0800

      Morning Divisions and Colours

      0830

      Lieutenancy Board at Headquarters (Public access)

      0930

      All hands man boats, South End jetty and beach

      1000

      Site opens. Public demonstration (repeat of Colours)
      Flotilla embarks marines and infantry and carries out circuit of Penetanguishene Harbour.

      1100

      Public demonstration of an Assault Landing by marines and infantry from Flotilla, South End beach.

      1200

      Lunch, all hands, Headquarters

      1300

      All hands to boats for Final Ceremonial Rowpast.

      1330

      Flotilla rows past and salutes Discovery Harbour and visiting 'tall ships' and takes Commmodore's salute.

      1400

      School of the Sailor "stands down'. Boats return to haul out, North End.

      1500

      Final marine and infantry drill

      1600

      Lowering of Colours.

      1700

      Site closes. Vehicles allowed on site.
