      1812 Privateer Schooner 'Lynx' Update

The Lynx Educational Foundation of California and Hawaii continues to examine the possibilities of bringing the superb gun-equipped 1812-era square topsail privateer schooner replica 'Lynx' eastward from Hawaii and California to take part in War of 1812 Bicentennial commemorations in Chesapeake Bay. 'Lynx' is sailed by re-enactor crews dressed in accurate 1812 kit.

A tentative sailing plan would call for a Gun and Flag Salute to the USN Atlantic Fleet at Norfolk, VA, followed by a visit to Yorktown, VA, site of the 1781 victory which effectively ended the American Revolution. Visits to the site of the original 'Lynx''s capture in the Rappahanock River in 1813 (after which she served as HMS 'Musquodobit') would be followed by visits to other Bay sites, and would include a Gun and Flag Salute to the US Naval Academy at Annapolis, and a visit to the first 'Lynx's birthplace of Fell's Point, Baltimore, Maryland. A principal aim would be to provide 'Lynx' in support of the re-raising of the Stars and Stripes over Fort McHenry on the commemoration of the stirring bombardment that led Francis Scott Key to pen 'The Star Spangled Banner'.

If the voyage occurs, 'Lynx's' movements and availability to members of the 1812 community will be communicated as soon as they are known.
