Even though I stopped reading several months ago, some things you just can't
escape. Thankfully there are some readers who can sort out the tripe and keep
the jaded informed.
A recent posting about mud and the hardships and lack of modesty on the
frontier caused a flurry within our small group- and brought home (again) the
lack of aggregate research and interest in quality impressions that permiates
the bulk of discussions here. Hearing a site interpreter say it does not make
it true. Reading it in A book does not make it true. As women's and
civillians' impressions are perhaps the most difficlut to research, given the
lack of parameters, far more consideration must be given to dress, attitudes
and manners. Though these subjects have been discussed at length here before,
our point obviously has escaped many readers. Mud, rain, heat, and laziness
are not an excuse to abandon shoes, chemises, hat OR STAYS (yes, I'm yelling).
Not that these are the most common items we encounter at reenactiments- but
I'll not venture there.
I think we've also been over the quality versus quantity issue. And the
research issue. And a variety of other topics which run full circle to
suggestions of running about in one's chemise.
Please feel free to bash away till your heart's content. I gave up on reading
or commenting in August or September- one can only stand so much insanity at
once- small doses make the dialogue more tolerable.
Pleading for more reading (research and common sense)
