Fort Meigs State Memorial Military History Roundtable Lecture Series
Dr. David Skaggs, Professor Emeritus of Bowling Green State
University, will speak on Thursday, May 17th at the Fort Meigs
Visitor Center in Perrysburg. The subject of his talk is "Thomas
MacDonough's Triumph on Lake Champlain." Dr. Skaggs will relate the
events of the Battle of Plattsburg and how MacDonough's naval victory
helped win the day for the American forces. The meeting starts at
7:30 PM and is free and open to the public.
Dr. Skaggs retired from the History Department at Bowling Green State
University in 2001, after thirty-six years with the university. He
was also a visiting professor at East Carolina University, the Air
War College and the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He is the
author and editor of several books and articles. Among his works are
A Signal Victory: The Lake Erie Campaign, 1812-1813 (co-author), The
Sixty Years' War for the Great Lakes, 1754-1814 (co-editor) and
Oliver Hazard Perry: Honor, Courage and Patriotism in the Early U.S.
Navy, his most recent work.
The Lecture takes place at Fort Meigs in the Visitor
Center located at 29100 West River Road in Perrysburg, Ohio on
Thursday, May 17th at 7:30 PM. The program is sponsored by the
Anderton Bentley Fund in memory of Christopher Perky, who served at
Fort Meigs during the War of 1812.
