      Future Special Operations

In addition to (a) staging the yearly School of the Sailor and (b) providing support to the yearly Grand Encampments (as well as attending other 1812-related events which may develop), the Naval Establishment will be staging the following additional challenging events intended to provide adventurous occasions for the practice of traditional seamanship.

      2006

The 'Mahogany Jones Raid'. Longboat voyage from Summerside, Prince Edward Island along coastal Northumberland Strait to Victoria, PEI and on to Charlottetown, PEI, ending with sham battle with Fort Amherst Garrison re-enactors, grounds of Government House and restored Historic Waterfront.

      2007

The 'Yeo Cup'. Open-boat competition under sail and oar from Naval Reserve unit HMCS YORK in Toronto, Ontario, along western shore of Lake Ontario to Bronte Harbour and then into Hamilton Harbour for a finish at preserved WW2 Canadian destroyer HMCS HAIDA. Trophy (presented aboard HAIDA) to be won for boat and crew gaining most points for (a) historical accuracy in dress and gear; (b) seamanship; and (c) time to finish.

      2008

"The Voyage To Quebec'. Major expeditionary challenge voyage under oar and sail in longboats, and in accompanying 'tall ship', from Kingston, Ontario to Quebec City, to arrive at same time as major 'tall ship' fleet gathering celebrating Quebec's 400th anniversary.

      2009

'The Founding of Halifax Dockyard, 1759-2009'. Major animation of Historic Waterfront Properties at Halifax, Nova Scotia, marking establishment of the RN in North America. Tall ship visits, sailpast of historic vessels and harbour 'sham battle', historic encampment, parade through the city, and joint ceremony with modern navy personnel. (To be preceded by special Challenge Voyage in traditional craft from Quebec City to Halifax, entitled 'The Major Robert Stobo Voyage'.)

Details will be provided in due course.

I have the Honour to be,
      Gentlemen,
      Yours with great Regard
