Squadron Composition, July 16-17 2005 School of the Sailor, Navy Hall, Niagara on the Lake, Ontario.

I am pleased to report negotiations to secure the presence of the brigantines 'Pathfinder', 'Playfair', and 'Saint Lawrence II' to form the core of the 1812 Lake Ontario Squadron at the Combined 1812 Grand Tactical and School of the Sailor, to be held at Fort George/Navy Hall, Niagara on the Lake, Ontario, July 16-17 2005. We have every expectation that these negotiations will succeed. The presence of these fine vessels and their enthusiastic young crews will add very much to the quality of the event.

The brigantine flotilla will be supported, it is now hoped, by a longboat flotilla of some ten or more craft, providing to the Naval Establishment a capable Squadron able to carry out the necessary evolutions for the School of the Sailor curriculum, opportunity for naval re-enactors to experience both the 'tall ship' and longboat environments, and to undertake the naval maneuvers and assault landings called for in the Grand Tactical scenarios.

Naval re-enactors will hopefully also have the opportunity to serve in either the "Yeo' or 'Mulcaster' crews, one based in one of the brigantines (subject to negotiation), the other in the Navy Hall encampment. This wateredge encampment, in a beautiful and historic setting, will be the focus of Naval Establishment shore activity.

The Commodore's broad pendant will likely be hoisted in 'Saint Lawrence II' as of this writing, as oldest and senior vessel of the Squadron.

It is hoped that naval re-enactors will see the July 16-17 event as an important one on their 2005 calendar. The colourful and historic town of Niagara on the Lake will be thronged with visitors, the encampments and battle scenarios promise to be spectacular, and the naval re-enactors and their families should find this a memorable weekend indeed.

I have the Honour to be,
      Gentlemen,
      Yours with great Regard

      Victor Suthren
