In March of 1814 the Light Coy of the Royal Scots and 89th Reg, under Capt
Basden attacked a US force located on higher ground along the Longwoods
road. One hundred and ninety years later, the Royals and the 89th,
re-united under a determined Capt Dickerson, charged up the slippery slopes
in the cold rain to attack an invading US force that was behind their
breastworks. But history repeated itself unfortunately which left the
Americans in command of the field of battle.
Once in while you get one of "those moments" when re-enacting that you
feel like..."WOW! This must have been what it was like!" It was a
phenominal experince to have the Royals and 89th together again, fighting in
the cold, wet weather at Longwoods. Thank you.
