- Yes the USN produced Caronades of various sizes from about 1800 onwards.
These were usualy produce under contract by various private firms usualy
located near one of the Navy Yards.
The USN also made widesprea use of British guns and Carronades purchased
before the war.
The "Columbiad" is a differnt type of weapon entirely. During the War of
1812 the term "Columbiad" most probably refered to a medium length gun
similar to the British "Congreve Gun".
The shell guns you refer to were not developed until much later - 1840's or
