The Fort Meigs Bentley Lecture Series

"All But Forgotten: Dudley's Defeat at Fort Meigs"

Mr. Jim Emch, historian and author, will present All But Forgotten: Dudley's Defeat at Fort Meigs" on Thursday, March 20th at 7:30 p.m. in the Fort Meigs visitor center. The presentation is free and open to the public. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.

On May 5, 1813, Colonel William Dudley led a green regiment of Kentucky militia against the British allied forces besieging Fort Meigs. Their effort to capture the British cannons on the shore opposite of the fort proved a success. Yet, their failure to follow their final order, returning to their boats and crossing to Fort Meigs, resulted in disaster for the Kentuckians in what is now known as Dudley's Defeat. Join Jim Emch as he recounts the events that led up to that fateful moment.

Mr. Emch is a local historian and area resident. Based on several years of research, he has pieced together a chronological running narrative of Dudley's Defeat based upon military reports, accounts of those present, family histories, old manuscripts, and diaries. The result of these efforts was the publishing of his book All But Forgotten: The Dudley Defeat of May 5th, 1813.

The presentation will be held at Fort Meigs in the Visitor Center located at 29100 West River Road in Perrysburg, Ohio on Thursday, March 20th at 7:30 PM.  The program is sponsored by the Anderton Bentley Fund in memory of Christopher Perky, who served at Fort Meigs during the War of 1812.
