Group Description

An on-going global project of what we term as "world kigo", where we discuss and compile local kigo words from different parts of the world to build up a database gradually. Each kigo presented for adoption by haiku poets around the world will be accompanied by detailed explanation of it (including internet LINKS) by these poets themselves as well as some sample haiku poems to illustrate how the kigo could be used. It will be a slow and laborious process but will give both the participants and the reader an enjoyable opportunity to deepen their understanding of kigo issues and to appreciate the climate, life and culture of other parts of the world. Once the collection reaches a certain size and content, it is our intention to present it online as "WHC World Kigo Database", which then will continue to be augmented and enriched in subsequent stages of consolidation. We wish to welcome as many haiku poets from as many locations in the world as possible in order to give this project the widest possible coverage.

The project leader is Gabi Greve, Director of WHCworldkigo, who is a German haiku poet of the traditional Japanese school, resident in Japan, writing in Japanese, German and English. She is also WHC's Director of Japan, disseminating Japanese culture through haiku.

To participate in this interesting project, please join WHCworldkigo by sending a blank e-mail to: WHCworldkigo-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

With very best wishes,

Susumu Takiguchi
