      1. WCL 12th Annual Hispanic Law Conference

      WCL will again be hosting its Annual Hispanic Law Conference on March
      5, 2009. While activities are occurring throughout the day, the
      substantive parts of the program begin in the afternoon with the
      highlight being a panel discussion at 5:10 focusing on the First 100
      days of the New Administration. A flyer describing the Conference is
      available on LAAW's Yahoo group website. There is no charge to
      attend the conference, but you do have to register. You can register

      2. LAAW By-Laws and Board Member Elections

      During the Hispanic Law Conference, LAAW will hold an organization
      meeting where we hope to officially adopt By-Laws for the
      organization and hold our first ever elections for the Board of
      Directors. All members of LAAW are encouraged to attend and
      participate in this organization meeting (if you are a WCL alumni,
      you are automatically a voting member of LAAW). You are especially
      encouraged to get involved and run for election as a LAAW Board
      Member. All Board positions will be up for election, with half
      lasting a term of one-year and the other half lasting a term of two-
      years. If you are interested in running for a Board seat, or if you
      have question about what being a Board Member entails, please email

      3. LAAW Board Member named to Dean's Advisory Council

      LAAW Board Member, A Manuel Garcia, was named to the Dean's Advisory
      Council as of October 2008. The Dean's Advisory Council is tasked
      with advising the Dean on law school matters, acting as a sounding
      board for new initiatives as well as providing strategic planning
      advice. It is important that LAAW and the Latino alums have another
      voice (along with Mr. Ed Bou) on the Council. Congratulations Manny.


      4. HACU Alumni Association Reception

      The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU)

      position supports the Health Policy Project, and the Analyst will
      implement legislative and political strategies to further NCLR's
      goals. The Analyst will also work to increase NCLR's visibility on

      and key policymakers at the federal state, and local levels, the
      ultimate goal of this position will be the implementation of
      legislation that results in positive health and nutrition outcomes on
      behalf of the Latino community. NCLR provides a team-based

      our work from multiple perspectives and methods, understanding both
      the specific issues and the larger interrelated systems across the
      field of health and beyond. The Analyst will report to the Associate
      Director of Health Policy and receive secondary supervision by the

      work collaboratively across all issue areas with staff carrying out

      QUALIFICATIONS:
      • Bachelor's degree required, master's degree in public policy or
      related area preferred
      • Minimum of two years engaging in advocacy at the federal level,
      including one year educating federal lawmakers on Capitol Hill;
      experience with relevant congressional committees, such as the Senate
      Finance Committee and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce
      preferred
      • Demonstrated knowledge of health policies affecting the Latino
