      Subject: [W8CSO] Help needed for Bike MS 2009 - June 13 & 14

For many years I've help with the MS-150 and predecessors in SW
Michigan, and last two years in the Bike MS rides in Western Michigan .
These events are great public service events - and generally well
received by hams and by the public. Some 400 to 700 (or more) bikers
participate. This year's event will start from Hope College on both
June 13 and 14, the first day going in a loop to the south, the second
      going to the north.

Ham radio communications really helps - bikes break down, people get
overstressed due to lack of conditioning, some (usually rare) times
there's an accident requiring medical attention. Communications via ham
      radio make quick response.

Why not tell the MS people to use cell phones or other commercially
available communications? Well, for one thing, cell phones don't work
in many of the outlying areas which are covered by the routes. Second,
cell phones, when they do work, are one to one communication - you can't
do a "break priority" during a conversation.

As of today, it appears that there are some 16 hams signed up. And,
there are 10 "open" spots available.

If you're available for either (or both) Saturday, June 13, and/or
Sunday, June 14 for 4 to 8 hours, please let Fred Moses , W8FSM know at

Note, if you're available for both days, the MS-150 will put you up in a
dorm room at Hope College on Saturday evening. Please let W8FSM know
      your need in this respect.
