      Cries Of The World

cruelty is normal in an insane world

      slaughterhouses take orders
      for flesh and blood
      from walking graveyards
      to serve alongside daily bread

      soldiers take orders
      from the ethically bankrupt
to torture and kill in the name of nationalism,
fragmenting their spirits in the process
       ,
hunters stalk and kill the majesty of nature
      in the name of sport,
      the price for each trophy
an innocent life and displaced family

      the environment gasps for breath,
poisoned to death by unconscious choices

religions allow killing in the name of god,
as the other side of their mouth shouts 'thou shall not kill'

       the man in the mirror
has settled into a comfortable level of ignorance,
      numbed by addictions
and the illusion of safety in numbers

the mind, in a state of atrophy,
unable to stretch beyond self-imposed boundaries,
is content with what it thinks it  knows,
      never questioning what it doesn't

the heart, out of synch with compassion,
dismisses as unworthy anyone or anything
outside the box of life-long conditioning
      ,
the eyes, blinded by greed and conformity,
accepts the status quo from a broken system

the ears, muted to the cries of the world and the voice within,
have become just two more holes in the head

and, so, the collective journey continues,
awake and asleep part of the same nightmare

in this world full of pretenders,
who will care enough to help change humanity's diaper?
